Lots of excitement today in P4 as the Life Bus came to visit. The Children learned a little about the different systems found in the human body (such as the digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems) and the impact that harmful substances, such as smoking, can have on us.
In geography we have been looking at the different types of settlements you find in the UK. The children have produced drawings of local settlements and developed their ideas into fantastic works of art in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
The children have been focusing on a bit of multiculturalism in PE! We have been learning about the history of the Haka dance from New Zealand, learning the steps and then choreographing and performing our own based on the myths of the Maori.
Today the children have been learning about global trade as part of our Human Geography topic. Each group (or country) had to make the best use of their resources and sell their produce to make a profit - but not all the countries were lucky enough to have equal resources!
Another wonderful music session with Mrs Wright. The children have been developing their understanding of musical notation by using the glockenspiels!
We were very lucky to have had a visitor from The Theatre by the Lake join us for a drama workshop this week. The children really enjoyed recreating some of scenes from the play we went to see over Christmas.
Based on images of Roman chariots, the children have been working very hard to develop their sketching skills!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Primary 4. The children are following a recipe to make their own salt dough, which they have used to make some fantastic tree decorations!
More PSHE fun! The children have been learning all about the United Nations rights of the child and how this applies to them and other children around the world.
Some fantastic teamwork going on today in Topic. The children are using their IT skills to research facts about the different climate zones.
P4 have really enjoyed learning different dances this half term. Here we can see some serious moves being thrown in our ‘dance off’.
During our Jigsaw lesson, the children have been learning about the importance of rules by making up their own games!
P4 have been learning about and painting self portraits in the style of Picasso!
P4 participating in the 2017 'Big Draw’ at Cockermouth School.
During October, P4 have been developing their sculpting skills by making these amazing clay pots in the style of the Ancient Greeks.
The children have really enjoyed practising their balance and breathing techniques in their very first ‘Star Wars’ based yoga session.
This week we have been very lucky to have year 10 pupils from Cockermouth School take the children for a PE based activity. They thoroughly enjoyed the various tasks the girls had organised! 25/01/18
During January, the year 5’s were learning about how plants reproduce in their science lessons. The children have planted tomato seeds and are looking after them as they grow. Updates to follow!
This March, the year 5’s were very fortunate to have a STEM ambassador visit us for an afternoon session on space and how the Moon and Earth rotate around the Sun. The afternoon was interactive and included practical demonstrations, videos and plenty of discussion! To find out more about STEM please see the link below: https://www.stem.org.uk/
P4 have been researching the famous artist and architect Gaudi, whose fantastic buildings can be seen in Barcelona. The children worked in pairs to create their own buildings in the style of Gaudi and had to consider aspects of his work such as shape, colour and pattern.
The finished pieces!
