To develop engagement of all pupils in physical activity.

100% of children are involved in Physical Activity and educated in line with the PE curriculum.

Pupils will develop the skills required for their key stage expectations.

Plan and implement lessons which lead to increased fitness and skills.

To disseminate the 100 mile Challenge to all pupils in school (Active Cumbria).

Encourage active play with Play Leaders and a wide variety of sporting equipment during playtimes.

Increase regular physical activity through after school clubs.

To develop pupils’ knowledge in the importance of living a healthy lifestyle

All children are taught about the significance of making healthy choices.

Children will have the ability to make good decisions to promote healthy living both now and for the future.

All children to partake in cross-curricular lessons which include learning about ‘healthy cooking’ and our school meals. Staff will lead by example in promoting leading healthy lifestyles.

Change4life lessons taught to encourage healthy eating at home.

PSHE will tackle issues concerning physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.

To increase confidence, awareness and skills of staff in teaching PE and sport.


Teachers have high expectations of pupils’ abilities and provide lessons which stimulate and engage all children in their learning.

All teachers confident and skilled to teach all areas of the curriculum with a particular focus on multi skills (EYFS and KS1) and Games (KS2).

The children will make accelerated progress in these areas.

Staff questionnaires to evaluate perception of their skills and provision in school. Timetabling provision of external coaches to support necessary requirements of staff.



KH released throughout the year to identify training areas, plan teaching opportunities and to develop sporting opportunities at Bridekirk Dovenby Primary School.

To broaden experiences of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

Outdoor education taught in the form of residentials and orienteering for older pupils.


KH developed Curriculum map for PE across school.

For children to partake in an additional sporting activity each year.

Develop the teaching of gymnastics across the school with outside support.


Encourage physical activity both in and out of school through Outdoor Education.


KH to ensure all areas of the PE curriculum are developed in conjunction with Cambridgeshire Planning Scheme.

An increase in competitions in Key Stage 1 and to increase in range of competitions KS2.
