People who help us

A Paramedic comes to school

Mrs Sutcliffe arranged for a really interesting and informative visit from her friend who is a Paramedic.  When the ambulance arrived at school there was so much excitement and even more so when we were allowed on board to have a look at all the life-saving equipment.  We were even allowed to try on the helmets and jackets that the paramedics have to wear in dangerous conditions.  I think we were all pleased to see that there was a friendly face behind the amazing paramedics who help people in need.

Is there a Dr Kinghan in the house?

Dr Kinghan came into school to talk the children in P1 and P2 all about what it is like to be a doctor and how his job is to help people when they are unwell.  He showed us lots of his special equipment and explained what he uses it for.  Some children had their blood pressure taken, were bandaged up or had their pulse checked.

Thank you to Dr Kinghan - I think you may have inspired some future medical students.

A visit to Workington Fire Station

What a fantastic morning P1 spent at Workington Fire Station!

We had a guided tour of the new station and looked at one of the large fire engines and all the equipment that the firefighters might need when on a call out to help people.

We even had a special call out especially for us on the printer which was very exciting!

For lots of children the favourite part was when the firefighter showed us some of the cars that had been used to practise the use of equipment that might need to be used to rescue people from a road accident.  Firefighters aren't just for fighting fires!
