Science Club

Exciting News for budding scientists!

In summer term we  run a Science Club for all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils.

We will be deepening our knowledge of lots of different scientific ideas and doing some very interesting experiments!

Here are some of the things we have done:

Exploring Solids and Liquids

We Learnt about the differences between Solids, Liquids and Gases and explored some of the ones that are a little tricky to classify!

Mini Beast Hunting

In Science Club this afternoon, we learnt about different Minibeasts. We learnt that some (like insects) have 6 legs, some (like spiders) have 8 legs and some (like centipedes and millipedes) have lots and lots of legs.

We went out into the school gardens and hunted for as many Minibeasts as we would find. We used special bug catchers to collect the bugs and viewers with a magnifying glass to get a closer look. We found everything from Ladybirds and worms to caterpillars and spiders to grasshoppers and shield beetles.

Marvellous Magnets

We learnt about how magnets work and the types of things they attract. We learnt that Iron, Cobalt and Nickle are all magnetic. We tested lots of things to see if they were magnetic and we made our own magnetic fishing games!

Electrical Circuits

Today we have learnt about all the different things that run on electricity.

We then had a go at making 3 circuits of our own. One with a bulb, one with a buzzer and one with a motor. We learnt that a circuit needs to be complete and have all the right components in order to work.
