• Easter Service - St Bridget's Church

  This morning we were joined by parents, family and friends for our Easter Service at St Bridget's Church. 

  Revd Thompson opened the service and Mayzie read ''The Saddest Day''. This was followed by a long poem that P5 had learnt off by heart. The poem told the full Easter Story from the betrayal by Judas to the resurrection of Christ. Each class then performed an Easter song and read a prayer... there were tears of sadness as well as tears of joy!

  The children were challenged to go away and be 'bouncy eggs' and not 'broken eggs' by Revd Thompson and he closed the service with an Easter blessing for everyone. 

• Farm to Fork Trip

  Yesterday our Year 1 and Year 2 children spent time consolidating our Geography learning about food production. We visited 3 farms which enabled us to have a practical experience of seeing where our food comes from. You will see in the photographs that we first visited a local dairy farm to see cows being milked and learned about dairy herds. Then we moved on to a sheep farm where we learned about meat farming, had some time enjoying feeding newborn lambs and looked closely at farm vehicles. Our final destination was another dairy farm in Torpenhow. Here they have a small herd of organically produced cows which they milk for cheese and ice-cream. At this farm we were able to see food production within a small factory, with lots of samples tasted along the way. 

  

• Human Circulatory System

  Year 6 pupils have been learning all about the main parts of the circulatory system and describing the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. They then went on to learn how to keep their bodies healthy and how their bodies might be damaged - including how some drugs can be harmful to the human body.

  The unit of learning also included working scientifically and looking at research into the relationship between diet, exercise, drugs, lifestyle and health. 

  The practical activities included in the unit were: making fake blood, absorption of nutrients through osmosis and actually walking the pathway blood moves through the heart.

  

• Sensory Garden Art Project

  Over the past few weeks, all the pupils in KS2 have been making a painted disc to display in our sensory garden. The children used different techniques and worked on the discs over a few weeks. They were asked to choose a design that represented something from the local environment. Once the wood on the over head shelter has been sanded and varnished, the discs will all go on display to be enjoyed by the children in school both now and in future years.

• Snowy Day Fun

  It’s not very often we have the opportunity to play in the snow. On Friday we couldn’t quite believe it when we woke up and saw snow covering the ground. It was a perfect day to have a great playtime playing with our friends on sledges, making snow angels, making giant snowballs and, of course, building snowmen. The sun shone and the snow was just perfect for playing in. 

  

• World Book Day 2023

  To celebrate World Book Day all the pupils and teachers dressed up as characters from their favourite book. Everyone looked amazing and the day started with everyone gathering in the hall so that we could see all the costumes. Each class had a turn to parade around the hall and we all listened to the title of the chosen books. Some children had organised themselves to be different characters from the same story - what a great idea!

  The day continued with ‘book activities’ in the classrooms which varied from games, book mark design, quizzes and art activities. 

  A fun day with many memories made. Thank you to all the children and parents for the thought and work behind the costumes. 

  

• Poetry Festival 2023

  On Friday 17^th February, the whole school gathered in the hall for our poetry festival. Each class had been working hard prior to the actual festival learning a poem to present to the audience. The poems were chosen from the schools’ poetry curriculum and the children learnt all the words off by heart. In addition, the children were all given the opportunity to recite a poem of their choice prior to the festival and three entries were then chosen to recite their chosen poems to the whole school. Teachers and governors also volunteered to contribute to the occasion.

  Mrs Fish opened the morning with ‘The King’s Breakfast’ by AA Milne (A favourite poem from her childhood) and this was followed by class poems and presentations from individual pupils and many other members of staff. Some of the poems were serious ones and some were funny. Mrs Taylor told one called ‘My Pet Worm Henry’; she even managed an American accent and brought in a green plastic worm! Mrs Marr chose a poem about naughty children and Mrs Smith recited a Spike Milligan favourite.

  The winners of the festival were: Chloe and Olivia (Year 2) for their recital of ‘Please Mrs Butler’ by Allan Ahlberg, Anna-Marie and Harriet (Year 3) for ‘The Ning Nang Nong’ by Spike Milligan and Heidi and Daisy for ‘The Tin Can      Band ‘by Margaret Mahy.

  A big well done to all the children who performed in the event and thank you for the enjoyment and memories that were made that day.
