  • Smiles all round when the Reception Children visited the dentist!

Mon 31 Jan 2022 Mrs Metcalf

The reception children were kindly invited to Derwent Dental Care, to learn about keeping their teeth clean and healthy. Using special mouth models, the children were shown how to give their teeth a thorough clean. They learned the amount of sugar that some foods and drinks contain - did you know that a box of raisins contains 3.5 teaspoons of sugar? Some of the children even got to sit in the dentist chair!

  • Cumbria Athletics - Cross Country Championships 2022

Wed 26 Jan 2022 Fiona Taylor

The County Cross Country Championships took place at Hunter Hall School, Penrith and four teams from Bridekirk Dovenby School were entered for this event. There were runners from all over Cumbria and the course, with the wall and stream crossing, proved to be a big hit with many of the children.

We eagerly await the final results (with optimism) but we understand that the fastest 12 in each of the year 5 & 6 races have a chance to represent Cumbria later in the year at the National Cross Country Championships.

We are very proud of all our runners in this event and the whole school effort was impressive.

  • Romeo and Juliet

Tue 25 Jan 2022 Fiona Taylor

This half-term, in English, Year 6 children are exploring the story of Romeo and Juliet. They are using drama to help them understand the play and familiarise themselves with the language.

Act 1 (Scene 1) was full of action and the noise from the Capulets and the Montagues fighting in the school hall could be heard in every classroom! Mrs Taylor, playing the part of Prince Escalus (minus the horse) brought the battle to a close.

The second drama session was Lord Capulet’s party which was planned so that Juliet could meet Paris with the hope of a wedding. However, Romeo had other plans and manages a secret conversation with Juliet.

  • NSPCC Assemblies

Tue 25 Jan 2022 Mrs. Fish

Today I led the children in an NSPCC assembly hosted by Ant and Dec. The main message was to remind the children to speak out if they have any worries. They met Buddy, the mascot who the NSPCC use; Buddy is a speech bubble. KS1 and KS2 content was quite different and differentiated as to the needs of the children. The children were introduced to their rights; to speak out and be heard, to be safe and to get help when they need it. We discussed how the NSPCC help children do this and they were introduced to the services ChildLine provide. We will be raising money for the NSPCC with our Number Day on the 4th February.

Escape Room Challenges as a reward for the Red Team, who had the highest number of team points during the Autumn Term. The children took part in a series of problem solving exercises as part of a team. There were both mental and physical challenges to enable the children to succeed. Thank you to Wright Sport Services for delivering these sessions and a big well done to Red Team.
