  • PLAYGROUND PROMS / Graffiti Classics

Sat 25 Jun 2022 Mrs Fish

What an amazing concert we took part in today!
Graffiti Classics, a comedy string quartet, entertained us with a mixture of classical and popular music. Amongst other composers, children were introduced to music by Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart and Bach. They enjoyed the jokes and their body language showed just how much the music captivated them.
The whole school joined in with the lyrics of a song titled ‘If We Could Save The World’. P4 then sang the next verse which they had composed the words for! They were amazing and videos showing some of the songs are available in the curriculum / music / enrichment area of the website.

  • York 2022 - Year 5 and Year 6 Residential

Fri 17 Jun 2022 Fiona Taylor

Children in Year 5 and Year 6 have just returned from their York residential.

They have had a busy three days exploring the city and stopping off at the main attractions the city has to offer. Their first call was on the way there - Eden Camp. They were transported to experience the sights and sounds of wartime Britain in an original POW camp. After a delicious meal at the hotel, they went on an original Ghost Walk around the city. Day two began with a tour of The Chocolate Story (with free chocolates) and the afternoon was Viking themed with Jorvik Centre and the Viking Dig. Bowling in the evening and then the Railway Museum was the final place they visited.

  • The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - 2022

Wed 15 Jun 2022 Fiona Taylor

To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen becoming the first British Monarch to have given 70 years of service, the children attended a special party lunch, played games and had a visit from the ice-cream van.

They dressed up in red, white and blue to match the colours of the Union Jack. White to represent peace, red to symbolise bravery and blue to represent loyalty, justice and perseverance. It was a great day to think about and continue our discussions about our British Values.

The staff also don’t like to miss a chance to dress up and this was no exception!

  • Primary 5 visit Wordsworth House

Wed 15 Jun 2022 Fiona Taylor

Linked to both history and English curriculum studies, Primary 5 visited Wordsworth House in Cockermouth. In English, the children have been studying the work of the local poet and have previously had a trip to Grasmere to see where Wordsworth used to live and to learn some facts about his life and works. A visit to his birthplace and childhood home further enhanced their knowledge of this famous local person.

In history, the topic this half-term is the history of our local area and a visit to this Georgian House was perfect to experience first-hand (with hands-on activities, informative talks by the staff and costumed living history) what life was like for William.
