• Easter Fun

  It is tradition at Bridekirk School to have lots of fun activities to take part in on the run up to the Easter holidays. This year was no exception and, following a service in church where each class performed a song and a prayer, the children had a busy time in their classrooms decorating eggs, making cards and taking part in Easter competitions. 

  In addition, there were some whole school competitions: decorate an egg and also an egg dumping knockout event. Louis won the title of ‘pupil strongest egg’ and he then had a battle with Mrs Wright as she won the title of ‘staff strongest egg’! 

  There were  also two prizes awarded in each class for the best decorated egg. Thank you to Mrs Rowlands for judging this competition.

  

• Year Five Arts and Careers Day

  Year Five were accompanied by Mrs Fish to Cockermouth School for a feeder schools 'Arts Day'.

  The children began the day block printing in the art department. They created some beautiful floral designs which were intricate and detailed.

  This was followed by a Samba Workshop in the music department. The children enjoyed keeping the beat to a variety of rhythms. They learnt the names and values of new notes and had to hold a beat whilst another group played something different. Playing instruments that were different from those available in school provoked intrigue, energy and excitement. 

  Finally, the drama department inspired an artistic movement / dance piece. The pupils worked together in smaller groups to express themselves in a choreographed dance to a song from the Lion King. Animal masks helped them play the part and bring the music to life. 

  We are very grateful to the arts department at Cockermouth School for putting the day together - even lunch in the secondary school dining room was a success! 

  Following this, the afternoon was spent hearing from local businesses about their varied careers. Primary Business Partnership arranged this half of the day which was also a great success. Please click on the link to view what the children had to say about this event!

• Winners of Winners!

  Children in year 1 and year 2 recently entered a competition organised by Cockermouth Rotary Club. The briefing was to paint a picture with a spring theme.

  They really enjoyed creating the pieces of art work and were delighted to find out that, not only had some of the paintings been awarded prizes for being the best in the class, two children had won 🏆 the competition when judged against entries from other local schools. 

  The Easter 🐣 eggs were well received by the children and thank you to the members of Cockermouth Rotary for organising the competition - your ideas for competitions are always amazing 🤩!

  

• World Book Day 2024

  Another great World Book Day to celebrate 🥳 the amazing choice of children’s fiction available for young readers in 2024. Every year it seems there are an increasing number of exciting and interesting books written for children to enjoy. There were certainly some interesting costumes worn by both the children and adults and enthusiasm to share the books the children brought into school. 

  Everyone gathered in the hall and listened to some well-known authors talking about the importance of reading. Many children had dressed up as characters from the same book - Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were well represented. 

  The children all completed a variety of activities in the classrooms connected with books.

• Preparing to be the next generation of music producers

  This half-term, pupils in P5 have been using the new YuStudio section of our music scheme - Charanga. It is a type of music creation software known as a digital audio workstation or DAW for short! They are learning how to record, arrange and mix their own tracks and compositions. The classroom was silent as they were all wearing headphones and absorbed in their own creations. At times, it looked like a silent disco as they were moving in time to their own creations. I was invited to 'have a listen' and all the creations I heard sounded amazing. There are new skills to learn every week so I look forward to further developments as the term progresses.
