This morning Reverend Thompson talked to the children about Advent. We lit four candles and then remembered that the final candle represented Jesus who should be the centre of our Christmas celebrations.
We are all excited about the lead up to Christmas and look forward to reading our advent booklets which St Bridget's church provided for each child to take home on Wednesday 1st December.
Some children from P3 went to Cockermouth School for a Quick Sticks Hockey tournament. They won 4 matches and drew 2. Fingers crossed we are in the next round!
P3 visited St Bridget’s church and attended a christening performed by Rev Thompson. This is part of our new RE topic ‘What is Trinity?’
Year 3 have been learning about fossils and have made their own ammonites with salt dough.
All the children in P4 and P5 spent an interesting day at Dove Cottage, Grasmere learning about the life and works of William Wordsworth.
The day started with an introduction and then a lesson about the life of William and the inspiration for his poetry writing.
The children planned their ideas around their own illustrations and shared them with the group.
After lunch, a tour of the cottage and gardens gave the children first hand experience of the living conditions. They asked, and answered many questions and compared the house to houses today.
The museum gave them an opportunity to learn more about Wordsworth and there was a fun treasure hunt and art activities to complete as well.
An excellent day
This week we have been thinking about how we can stay safe on the roads. The PCSO has been in school to talk to us about Road Safety and today we all wore brightly coloured clothes. This helps us to be seen by drivers, especially as the nights are so long in the depths of winter.
In our classes we have been looking at the road markings outside school and thinking about how we can keep each other safe as we arrive and leave school.
On Friday 5th November, we held a Sponsored Run on the Track at M-Sport.
At last, all the money is in and we have raised £3,764.50.
A BIG thank you to all who took part and to those who raised money for us.
Finally, a THANK YOU to M-Sport for letting us use their track.
We layered up sediments ( chocolate) and applied pressure to show the process of sedimentation, compaction and cementation!
Clare Parker, our local PCSO came to talk to Primary 1 and 2 this afternoon, all about road safety. The children had lots of good ideas about staying safe and found out all about the different kinds of crossings and what to wear to be seen in the dark.
Now we are looking forward to our ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’ day tomorrow.
P3 have been baking biscuits and adapting the recipe to improve it. We baked plain biscuits one week and then added lemon, cocoa and chocolate chips to make 3 batches of improved ones. We will choose our favourite and design some packaging, think about target audience and price them up.
