Intent
ALL pupils leaving Bridekirk Dovenby Primary School will be well educated in a broad range of Physical Activities and have the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
At Bridekirk have decided upon the following CURRICULUM DRIVERS which underpin the decisions we make about the curriculum and physical educational opportunities we offer in and out of school:
- Community Values
- Active Adventure
- Initiative and Independence
- Possibilities
Living in a rural community, we believe our children need to know about and understand the world that is beyond the immediate doorstep and the possibilities that it can offer. We encourage opportunities to experience a wide variety of sports and inspire children to strive to achieve.
Throughout school (EYFS, KS1 and KS2), we use the iPep scheme of work. This scheme allows us to deliver a rich, ambitious curriculum that is well sequenced for progression and development aged classes. We provide an inclusive curriculum that is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners and provide weekly additional SEN lessons.
At Bridekirk we have strong links with our local secondary school. We have half termly visits from the Yr7 PE teacher and attend a minimum of 6 competitions / festivals each year. These links ensure pupils are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and ensure teachers have a clear understanding of how lessons are taught in secondary schools. Teaching is such a way supports this transition.
We recognise that over the last two years there have been many hurdles to overcome; our PE curriculum has been designed so it can be adapted and delivered when remote learning is required.
