  • The Wizard of Oz

Sun 08 Feb 2026 Fiona Taylor

Children in year 5 were very lucky to be invited to watch a performance of The Wizard of Oz starring a group of pupils from Cockermouth School.

The production was amazing from start to finish and the children all agreed it was a show-stopper. The music was played by the school orchestra, the costumes were so bright and perfect, the singing was mesmerising but, best of all, was the acting and dancing. All the children were sat on the edge of their seats and they especially enjoyed spotting the characters that they recognised from attending Bridekirk Dovenby School. Merryn played the parts of Hunk and Scarecrow, Willow and Lucy played parts of a Queen and Molly was an Oz Woman and a tree!
Thank you for an amazing and memorable morning.

  • Cross Country Event at Sedbergh School

Thu 29 Jan 2026 Mrs Fish

Just before Christmas, yr3/4/5&6 visited Cockermouth School for a Cross Country event. Following this, three girls were chosen to compete at Netherhall School two weeks ago. This event was used by external PE leads to select an Allerdale team of sixteen per category, to travel to Sedbergh School for a county selection race.

At the selection race yesterday, the girls ran with 98 other runners from different Cumbrian schools for a place in the County team.

Chloe and Martha were in the Year 5 race and Harriet was in the Year 6 race. All girls ran a 2 km course which was muddy and hilly - as you can see from the pictures!

All three girls ran an amazing race and had were all proud of their achievements as were we.

Martha was 15th and has been selected to represent Cumbria at the national event which will take place on Saturday 21st March @ NAEC Stoneleigh. Chloe was 18th, and is on the reserve list for the event. Harriet may decide to join a running club as she has a natural talent and was 41st in the Year 6 race! 'Well Done' to all the girls and to the parents who took them to the event. We wish Martha well in the next event in March.

  • Reading Awards

Wed 24 Dec 2025 Fiona Taylor

The development of reading skills is at the heart of the curriculum at Bridekirk. Reading, as a child, has so many benefits. The academic benefits of vocabulary development and improved comprehension and the emotional benefits of increasing emotional intelligence which builds self-esteem and confidence.

Every half-term the children who have been recognised for excellence in independent reading receive a certificate in our awards assembly.  Some children have demonstrated fantastic improvement; some have read with excellent comprehension; some have read challenging titles and others have read regularly at home.

Well done to the children receiving an award in December.

  • Olivia - School Performance at Carnegie Theatre

Wed 10 Dec 2025 Fiona Taylor

The children in years 4,5 & 6 performed ‘Olivia’ to a packed theatre at the Carnegie in Workington. The audience were amazed at the standard of acting, singing and dancing. All the children appeared very confident in their roles and gave it their best.

Among the girls, Anna, Dinah, Harriet, Gabriella, Martha, Everly and Freya sang their solos with confidence and, among the boys, Theo, Lucian, Zach and Isaac impressed the audience with their singing parts. Sherlock and Holmes took charge of trying to solve the mystery and the London Ladies cockney accent made the audience feel they were in a London theatre. Fagin, Crachit and Dodger certainly had a disreputable  air about them. Well done everyone.

  • Bishop Rob's Enthronement

Sun 30 Nov 2025 Mrs. Fish

On Saturday, Harriet represented the school at a very special service in Carlisle Cathedral. It was the 68th Bishop's Enthronement Service and you can watch it here on YouTube...

    Enthronement Service

Harriet, Ruby and William were all absolutely amazing ambassadors for our schools and our wider family of church schools in the Diocese. It was a LONG service but they played their parts perfectly. We could tell, had a lot of fun drenching the congregation in holy water!

See @diocese of Carlisle for all the professional pics; I've also posted a few below for you to see.
