  • Sports Day 2025

    Thu 17 Jul 2025

Another year, another tremendous sports day. Filled with sunshine (and rain), laughter and teamwork. Pupils from Reception to Year 6 took part with enthusiasm, cheering each other on in a wide range of races and activities. From sprinting and skipping to the Jack & Jill race and relay, everyone gave their best effort.

This year saw a win for Blue Team and a very funny race from some surprise animals. See the pictures for a little laugh…

  • All Things Musical

On Monday after school, the guitars and woodwind players entertained their parents with a selection of pieces they had been learning to play in their instrumental lesson over the year.

This week, we had some students from Cockermouth school come in and play for us… they brought with them brass instruments and the children loved listening to their playing. We even managed to play and sing 'Happy Birthday' to Mrs Kinghan.

Some of the videos are available on the music section of the website.

  • Photographic Success

Fri 11 Jul 2025 Fiona Taylor

We  were delighted to find out that one of the photographs we entered for the Cockermouth Rotary competition had been judged the winning entry. The photograph was chosen for the clear central image and the well defined raindrops.

The photograph will appear in the 2026 Rotary calendar which will be sent all over the world to relatives and friends who know and love Cockermouth.

Cockermouth Rotary make well over a thousand pounds from the sale of the calendars which they distribute to local charities and we are delighted we could help them.

Well done Thomas  - keep up with this hobby

  • Bridekirk Dovenby is SuperKind!

Wed 09 Jul 2025 Mrs Smith

We are delighted to share that our school has earned the @superkind_org #SocialImpactSchoolsAward this year. This is a testament to the wonderful social action work that our students have put in this year to make a positive impact on our local community and wider world.

From a penalty shoot out to raise money for some re-useable sandwich wrappers to be used in school, to a Bake Sale which raised money for the children of Gaza - we have achieved so much!

Everyone is thrilled to have earned this recognition and we are looking forward to having even more social impact next year! #superkind

  • Royal Northern College of Music Visits School!

Thu 03 Jul 2025 Mrs Fish

Phil Goodwin, Head of RNCM Engage Cumbria (Royal Northern College of Music) and a group of 5 musicians visited school on Tuesday to perform live to the children. They introduced themselves and their instruments and the children asked lots of musical questions.

A range of music was played and the children were able to recognise many of the elements that we talk about in our lessons.

Following the live assembly, the ensemble provided workshops for our current woodwind players supporting and inspiring them on their musical journey.

Following this, they worked with a different group of children - those who would like to learn how to play an instrument. Hopefully some of these children may wish to take up a woodwind instrument in September. Please do get in touch with the school office if this is something that your child would like to do!

Funding for the event came from the Benny Walker Foundation. Benny Walker had an Engineering Company in Cockermouth and was a keen amateur musician. When he passed away he set up a trust fund for Engineering and Music for young people from Allerdale and Copeland.

For the past 2 years RNCM Engage Cumbria has been taking music into schools and community groups in the Allerdale and Copeland area. Until now the focus has been on Brass instruments, and the majority of the work has been in Millom and Maryport. The RNCM in this area is now a focusing on woodwind in our area. Cumberland Music service suggested Bridekirk Dovenby Primary School as they provide WW lessons for our children.
