• Harvest Service at St Bridget's

  The whole school gathered with parents, Rev Roy and Rev Christina for our special Harvest Service at St Bridget's Church.

  Together we thanked God for the abundance of food that we enjoy and share. We spent time considering those not as fortunate as ourselves. Rev Christina welcomed everyone to the service and each class sang a song of thanks. Rev Roy spoke about Harvest, relating it to all the words that can be made from the letters HARVEST!

  It was a lovely morning, so the children enjoyed an autumn walk back to school together while parents were offered refreshments in the church.

   

  

• Halloween and Bonfire Safety

  Today we have had a visit from PC Claire Parker, who came into P3 to discuss Halloween and bonfire night safety. As well as asking lots of questions, we learned about:  how we can be responsible, keep safe and where we can go locally to enjoy events. 

  

• Xcountry Participation

  Last Thursday, all Year 3 and 4 children plus a team of children from Year 5 and 6 took part in (quite a muddy) Xcountry event at Cockermouth School. We were so proud of all the children who demonstrated fabulous perseverance and determination to complete the route. A special well done to Freddie and Martha who both placed in the top 3. 

  

• Life Exhibition - P5 RE Visit

  On Thursday, the children in P5 visited Christ Church Cockermouth to experience the Life Exhibition. 

  Everyone visited three different zones as well as a final video zone. The Red Zone - LIFE LINE - the children discovered the historical Jesus, and how the life of Jesus was predicted hundreds of years earlier by Jewish prophets.

  The Green Zone - LIFE TALKS - the children explored how the unique teachings of Jesus are still relevant to them today.

  The Blue Zone - LIFE WORKS - realising how Jesus’ miracles helped people.

  Video Zone -LIFE GIVER - where the children explored the impact

  of his life, death and resurrection. 

  Finally, the children answered a multiple choice quiz online and were provided with refreshments. 

  We would like to thank all the volunteers at Christ Church for providing us with an interactive thought provoking RE lesson! 

  

• World Mental Health Day

  At Bridekirk Dovenby School we are aware of how our mental health can affect the way we learn and how we feel about ourselves and others.  Yesterday, we all wore yellow to show our support for World Mental Health Day.

  A big thank you to all the children for taking part in lots of activities ensuring that we understand just how important good mental health is.

  

• St Cuthbert's Way - A Pilgrimage!

  Janet and Mike Heslop came into school to talk to us about pilgrimage. They had undertaken St Cuthbert’s Way which is a pilgrimage from Melrose Abbey in Scotland to Lindisfarne and Holy Island on the Northumberland coast. 

  They talked about what they saw on route and the significance of different places. 

  The children asked questions and considered the difference between a journey and a pilgrimage. 

  They will be finding out more about pilgrimages taken by people from other World Faiths next half term.
