Pupils in Primary 5 are learning about geographical features of their local area so this week they used a map to navigate their way round Cockermouth and at various stages of the walk, they collected some data so they could increase the evidence for their hypotheses that had been discussed prior to the walk. In addition, they looked at the features of the housing and, using information in their guide, they identified when the houses had been built. Also, there were some interesting things to look for using photographs as clues. They saw buildings connected to William Wordsworth, Fletcher Christian, John Dalton and we even saw the house that was lived in by Chris Bonington. Mr Chippendale told us about the history of The Toyshop on Main Street. The town trail ended at the Memorial Gardens with an explore of the play area!
