Tension Builds as Votes are Counted

General Election Day

As there is a General Election being held today and it is the first time one has been held in the UK in December for almost 100 years, the Year 6 pupils requested to hold an election to help the younger pupils understand what was happening.

A mock election was held in the school hall and five political parties were represented.

Firstly, the Conservative Party led by Fred and Archie spoke about their promises for the people of our country should they be elected. They were followed by the Labour Party, led by Sapphire and thirdly, the Liberal Democrats, led by Emma and William.

Next the pupils heard from Brexit Party, led by Emily and finally Lola presented the ideas from the Green Party.

Wearing costumes, sharing films they had prepared beforehand, showing posters and waving their mascots, all the parties worked hard to gain the votes.

It was a close race and, after a recount, the Green Party won by only two votes. Well done Year 6 for helping the pupils to understand a little about what is happening in our country today.
