It was a great day for taking photographs of all the fab costumes that were worn on World Book Day 2022.

  • World Book Day 2022 - 25 Year Celebration

Fri 04 Mar 2022 Fiona Taylor

The year 2022 marks the celebration of 25 years of World Book Day and the children (and adults) had a day of ‘book related’ activities to promote reading for pleasure.

On Monday, some of the KS2 classes watched ‘Live from the Cambridge Theatre’ where they heard from many of the popular authors about their journey into story writing. On 3rd March, everybody dressed up as their favourite book character and we held a ‘character parade’ with the school council members judging the different costumes. Following that, the older children in school read their favourite book to the younger children. Quizzes, competitions and treasure hunts were a few of the examples of the activities the children had opportunities to be involved in during the day.

  • A visit from Mrs Hill

Tue 01 Mar 2022 Mrs Smith

Reception children were excited this morning to welcome their Governor Class Buddy, Mrs Hill.  The children chatted happily about what they have been learning and experiencing since our last catch up just before Christmas.

Mrs Hill was very impressed to hear all about our visit to the dentist, learning all about our writing and how we know what we need to do to make progress, and even the willow weaving in our new sensory garden.
At the end of our chat, Mrs Hill, gave us two lovely books!  We shared ‘Mog, the forgetful cat’ together and will be using ‘The Easter Story’ in our RE lessons really soon.

We are really looking forward to hearing from our other buddy, Mrs Matthews, soon.

  • Willow Weaving - the start of our new Sensory Garden!

Wed 23 Feb 2022 Mrs. Fish

Today and yesterday, Mr Phil Bradley joined governors in school to work with every single child in what will become our new Sensory Garden. Over the two days, the children have created their own willow wall boundary and willow tunnel each with openings and doorways to ensure a sense of excitement and adventure.

Mrs Leah Coe talked to the children about the design and the children followed the floor plan and discussed what they would like to see in their new garden.

We are very proud of our new willow structure and can't wait for the next stage to begin!

  • Recorder Lessons with Mrs McConkey & Mrs Brew

Wed 23 Feb 2022 Mrs. Fish

After two years of coronavirus, we have managed to secure Mrs McConkey to deliver recorder lessons to a small group of children supported by Mrs Brew. These lessons will take place weekly  via zoom until Mrs McConkey is able to return to teaching outdoors in the summer. We greatly appreciate the opportunity these children have been given.

  • Farm to Fork

Wed 23 Feb 2022 Mrs Harrington

Today the Year 2 children travelled around our local area to consolidate and enrich our science learning. We have been developing our understanding about food origins and the journey it makes to get to our local shops.
We began our journey at a dairy farm where we saw cows milked,  newborn calves, tractors and asked lots of questions. We were shown the journey milk makes through pipes and into a tank before being collected to go to a cheese factory. Next, we travelled to see beef cows and newborn lambs (with a quick lunch at Mrs Marrs’ farm) then off to Torpenhow Cheese Farm. We saw yet more cows and learned about how their milk was made into cheese. Taste-testing the cheese before we delivered it to Harrison’s butchers. Samples taken to share with our families are going down a treat!

  • Hindu Workshop

Tue 22 Feb 2022 Mrs Herbert

P3 learned all about Hinduism today and got to dress up as the many Gods. It was absolutely brilliant and we learned lots!

  • Team work makes the dream work in Primary 3

    Mon 14 Feb 2022 Mrs B Fletcher

Primary 3 have been talking about dreams and goals during their PSHE 'Jigsaw' lessons. Both year groups were set separate challenges, where the emphasis was on TEAM WORK.

Y3 were set a challenge to work as a small team to design a garden. Each group had a team leader, landscaper, event planner and budgeter. They had to agree on who the garden would be for, what they would include and how much to spend. They worked really well together and drew up some fantastic plans.

Y4 were asked to design the funniest potato head. They had to decide upon a name, address, job and hobbies for their potato person. Then they drew some ideas of what he or she might look like. They had lots of fun making them last week and there was lots of laughter along the way. The finished creations were judged by a small group of Y1 children, who decided that "Jacqueline" the clown was the funniest. They were all fabulous and the children had some hilarious ideas!
