Last week, Nicola Woolly came in to talk to us about the campaign for a new bike and skate park to be built in Cockermouth. She told us all about the project and how it was being launched. We were asked to complete a survey to help with the research behind the building of a skate park and we have to answer questions about whether we would use a skatepark and/or a pump track.
Nicola was also interested to hear where we went biking and also about our suggestions for a new facility. Fran suggested that bike hire would be good, Cooper suggested a variety of different challenges and Finlay suggested a place where his parents could sit down and get a drink!
Today our produce was collected as part of the foodbank's harvest appeal. The new School Council had their picture taken with Stuart and were very proud of our donation. Thank you to everyone who supported Cockermouth foodbank this Harvest-time.
Lauren and Joe represented Bridekirk Dovenby CE School at the Rotary Young Speakers competition last night.
Despite being a little nervous, both Joe and Lauren spoke clearly and kept the audience engaged using humour, intrigue and great imagination throughout.
Lauren spoke about her 'Dream Job' as a mechatronics engineer (someone who works on designing and manufacturing products that combine mechanical functions with advanced electronics, software, sensors and control systems).
While Joe entertained us with his plans to create a new global theme park in Cockermouth providing free entry for all children!
Lauren and Joe both learnt a great deal about speaking in front of an audience as well as from the other speakers who took part in the competition. A huge well done to them both!
Today, Sarah, from Derwent Dental Care, came to talk to the children about how to look after their teeth. The children were all taught how to clean their teeth properly and were provided with toothpaste, brushes and a 2 minute timer.
As well as keeping our teeth clean, the children also learnt the importance of food choice - especially when choosing snacks! We realised that some healthy drinks are not always as healthy for our teeth as we might think 🤔…
The pictures below show some of the learning that took place.
Today the children were challenged to help feed the thousands! They listened to the story of the feeding of the five thousand and watched as Stuart's lunch box seemed to magically produce more and more bread rolls and tins of tuna fish!
The children will take part in the Harvest Appeal by collecting tins and dry food to bring into school.
Please pass on information to your friends and family about our 'November Open Days'. Posters are available from the school office and on the website under admissions. Please share on Facebook etc. too!
Today we said our fair wells to Rev’d Thompson who is moving on to a new Parish. The children thanked him and wished him well for the next new chapter of his life. They wrote blessings and prayers which they read to him in our assembly. Adrian was then presented with a cake and a watercolour painting for his new home.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Summer Fayre on Saturday. The weather was kind to us and we had a wonderful morning together. FOBDS did an amazing job organising everyone and altogether we raised a little over £2000 !! WELL DONE EVERYONE
Our annual music concert was held on Wednesday 12th July. Children who play the guitar, saxophone and recorder took part. The choir also joined in at the end with some amazing singing. To see the videos, please go to Curriculm-Music-Instrument Lessons- Music Concert
