Primary 4 have had a great day learning all about rivers and why it’s important we help to protect them. We completed lots of fun activities with Emma from West Cumbria Rivers Trust. We’re now full of knowledge and ready to head out on our field trip to a river next week.
All year 3 and 4 went to Derwent Hill for 3 days. Our activities were canoeing, ghyll scrambling, walk up Latrigg and high challenges. It was amazing and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Another successful trip out to compete in the West Cumbria Schools orienteering league. The children are becoming more and more confident with their map reading and there were some very speedy times this afternoon!
This year our year 5 & 6 orienteers have their work cut out as they compete in the West Cumbria League. A prologue event followed by 5 league events and then a final!
This Wednesday saw us take part in a course at Cockermouth School. It was lovely weather and the children did their best to navigate one of three courses set up.
Well done to all our runners... Next week we will meet at Curwen Park in Workington!
On Friday the coronation of King Charles III was celebrated by all the children and staff in school.
Everyone came to school dressed up in red, white and blue and some children wore crowns and brought flags. They had a special assembly where they learned facts about the coronation and a special lunch was prepared by Mrs Bowness. Throughout the day, a variety of activities based around the coronation were taking place.
The following day King Charles was crowned with the St Edward’s Crown and Queen Camilla was crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown. Over 2,000 guests were invited to the coronation which took place in the Abbey Church of Westminster.
Year 5 had an amazing day at Cockermouth School partaking in an arts event. The afternoon started with Drama where the children learnt a musical theatre routine from the show Bugsy Malone - Bad Guys. In art children explored the natural world through gelli plate mono printing. Finishing off the afternoon with music, the children were given the opportunity to learn about the origins of, and then play and perform some Samba music.
Year 5 took part in a brilliant Harry Potter themed morning of science at Cockermouth School on Tuesday. It was a great event and the children got stuck into a range of magical experiments and investigations.
Our Year 2 residential to Hawse End was another success. The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to develop independence and outdoor learning opportunities. On Wednesday we kayaked to St Herbert's Island to compete team building exercises and found treasure and had a fabulous evening walk around Derwent Water. On Thursday we went to Caldbeck to climb and abseil, developing our belaying skills as we kept each other safe.
Well done to all involved!
The end of the Spring term was busy with Easter themed activities. Following the service in church and a lovely walk back up to school, the awards were given for the best decorated cup cake.
It was very difficult to decide the winners of the competition for each class as the cakes were so well decorated. There were chicks, lambs and many other Spring and Easter designs.
Each class held an egg dumping competition and the winners all battled it out for the ‘strongest’ egg in school. The adults in school also joined in with Mrs Metcalf winning the staff award.
There were additional Easter activities taking place in the classrooms and we were all looking forward to our Easter break.
This morning we were joined by parents, family and friends for our Easter Service at St Bridget's Church.
Revd Thompson opened the service and Mayzie read ''The Saddest Day''. This was followed by a long poem that P5 had learnt off by heart. The poem told the full Easter Story from the betrayal by Judas to the resurrection of Christ. Each class then performed an Easter song and read a prayer... there were tears of sadness as well as tears of joy!
The children were challenged to go away and be 'bouncy eggs' and not 'broken eggs' by Revd Thompson and he closed the service with an Easter blessing for everyone.
