  • P3 U Dance

Thu 12 Mar 2020 Mrs Herbert
P3 went to the Carnegie on Monday to take part in U Dance. Our dance was called 'The Afterlife' and was inspired by our history topic 'The Boy Behind the Golden Mask'. The children were fantastic on the night and had a great time. Take a look at our amazing costumes from the dress rehearsal.
  • A Reader is a Leader

Sun 08 Mar 2020 Fiona Taylor

Reading for pleasure is encouraged for every child at Bridekirk Dovenby School.

Pupils in year 6 are rewarded for excellence in their own reading goals. Meeting their challenging, short-term targets gives them some time to enhance the reading of children in Primary 1. They often work with a small group delivering a 'guided reading' style session or with individuals, listening to their home/school book.

This week some year 6 pupils introduced Accelerated Reader to year 1 readers and explained how the online quizzes worked.

Well done year 1 - you all passed the quiz on your first book and it won't be long before you are entering our millionaires' club alongside pupils from year 4 upwards.

Since September our year group word counts are:

    Year 1 - 652

    Year 2 - 1,834,500

    Year 3 - 2,797,445

    Year 4 - 7,501,183

    Year 5 - 8,923,810

    Year 6 - 15,157,905

and 7 children in school have each read over 1 million words!

  • Macbeth - The Battle Scene

Fri 06 Mar 2020 Fiona Taylor

Primary 5 pupils acted out their own battles to help them learn about the battle in Shakespeare's Macbeth between King Duncan's forces and Macdonwald, a treacherous noble, aided by the Norwegian king.

Macdonwald had lots of support from Irish and Scottish foot soldiers and cavalry and appeared very confident on the battlefield. For a while, it seemed as though he had luck on his side.

Macbeth, however, was able to overcome Macdonwald's confidence. Cutting his way through the soldiers, Macbeth made directly for Macdonwald.

Macbeth was the hero of the battle, universally recognized and praised for his bravery and fighting ability.

    How fierce do we look?

  • A Prickly Visitor

    Thu 05 Mar 2020

This afternoon, to help us celebrate World Book Day, we had a very prickly visitor. Spike (the hedgehog) came into Primary Two to read us his favourite book. As well as reading a book, which helped us to find out more about the habitats hedgehogs inhabit, we were able to ask Mrs Kinghan all about how to look after a hedgehog during the winter months.

A very special Secret Reader. We wonder who'll be next?!

  • Easter Surprise

Wed 26 Feb 2020 Mrs Herbert
